The legendary West Virginia monster returns to exact revenge on five childhood friends who covered up an accidental killing.

(Mothman background source:Wikipedia. The Mothman is a creature reportedly seen in the Charleston and Point Pleasant areas of West Virginia from November 12, 1966, to December 1967. Most observers describe the Mothman as a winged man-sized creature with large reflective red eyes and large wings. Dan Dare Pilot of the Future in Prisoners of Space

Sam Worthington

When MTV News caught up with Worthington during a “Clash of the Titans” press junket, the actor confirmed rumors that he’s attached to a movie based on British science-fiction hero “Dan Dare,” and offered an update on the status of “The Last Days of American Crime,” based on the Radical Publishing series by Rick Remender.

As for the rumors connecting him to a “Dan Dare” movie, Worthington confirmed that he’s involved with the project, but stopped short of explaining his role. However, he did indicate that the film would be inspired by the recent reboot of the character’s adventures under writer Garth Ennis.

“‘Dan Dare,’ same type of thing — we’re seeing how they’re going to develop it and where they want it to go,” he said. “I’m at that stage now where I want to do movies where I get my $16 worth. … Something like ‘Dan Dare,’ there was something in the reboot by [Garth Ennis] that was amazing.”

Frankenstein

By Josh Winning – TotalFilm.com

Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov is in talks to direct an adaptation of Peter Ackroyd’s The Casebook Of Victor Frankenstein.

director Timur Bekmambetov

The novel is a retelling of Mary Shelley’s classic Frankenstein, with the original author appearing as a character who argues with Victor Frankenstein about his atheistic beliefs.

As Dr Frankenstein experiments with attempting to resurrect dead bodies, he strikes a deal with the Doomsday men – known as the resurrectionists – who put his life in danger thanks to their grisly methods.

Screenwriter David Auburn, who won the Tony Award in 2001 for his play Proof (which became a film starring Gwyneth Paltrow), is pushing to transfer the story to the big screen.

Bekmambetov is reportedly being sought out by high-up exec types to helm the project, though he’s not signed anything yet. But considering his past with Night Watch, he seems a perfect fit for the off-the-wall film.

Godzilla To Be Revived in 2012

Original Godzilla movie poster

by Ray Subers – BoxOfficeMojo.com

Legendary Pictures, in conjunction with Warner Bros., plans to release a Godzilla reboot in 2012, according to a press release issued earlier today by the company. This will be the first English language Godzilla movie since 1998, when director Roland Emmerich unleashed the monster upon Manhattan, grossing $379 million worldwide.

Since first hitting the big screen in 1954, Godzilla has appeared in over 25 movies, all of which were produced by Toho Company. Toho will play a role in the reboot’s development, even though official producing credit goes to Legendary. The most recent Godzilla movie, Godzilla: Final Wars, disappointed in its native Japan, grossing $9.1 million there, and never made it to domestic theaters.

“Godzilla is one of the world’s most powerful pop culture icons, and we at Legendary are thrilled to be able to create a modern epic based on this long-loved Toho franchise,” said Thomas Tull, Chairman and CEO of Legendary. “Our plans are to produce the Godzilla that we, as fans, would want to see. We intend to do justice to those essential elements that have allowed this character to remain as pop-culturally relevant for as long as it has.”

While the 1998 Godzilla’s $136.3 million domestic haul is the equivalent of over $220 million adjusted for ticket price inflation, it was labeled a box office disappointment in its day and was widely reviled, winning two of its five Razzie nominations that year. Two years later, Toho-produced Godzilla 2000 mustered only $10 million, and the most Godzilla-like movie since then, Cloverfield, grossed $80 million in 2008. Legendary’s press release indicates that they plan to focus more on the Japanese source material with the reboot, largely ignoring the prior 1998 incarnation.

Legendary and Warner Brothers have had a highly successful relationship in recent years, bringing to theaters such hits as Batman Begins ($205.3 million), 300 ($210.6 million), The Dark Knight ($533.4 million) and The Hangover ($277.3 million). Their next release, the Clash of the Titans remake, opens this Friday.

Zombies Set to Invade AMC

by James Sims – BroadwayWorld.com

Zombies are getting ready to invade AMC after the cable network ordered six one-hour episodes of ‘The Walking Dead,’ a sci-fi series based on the Robert Kirkman comic book, reports The Wrap.

AMC asserted itself as a power player in the original series market after its show ‘Mad Men’ resonated not only with a growing fan base but also with the critics and Television Academy — ‘Mad Men’ has won Emmy and Golden Globe awards for its look at the culture of New York’s advertising agencies in the 1960s.

Although ‘Walking Dead’ deals with zombies, the network is adamant that its not only about dead people. “It doesn’t do it justice to call it a zombie series,” an AMC executive told The Wrap. “It’s really a social drama based around a group of survivors.”

The new show’s producer Gale Ann Hurd told the New York Times, “We’re taking our inspiration especially from ‘Breaking Bad,’ in terms of character stories in a violent world… it is a world in which the zombies outnumber the humans, so I think it’s going to be difficult not to.”

Jon Bernthal is already cast, following his turn in HBO’s current mini-series, ‘The Pacific.’ ‘Walking Dead’ will begin airing in October, just in time for the network’s Halloween programming, and is set to be filmed in Atlanta, Georgia beginning in June.

Rachel Weisz

from WorstPreviews.com

Rachel Weisz has previously expressed interested in joining Daniel Craig in a James Bond movie. And now that she and Craig are working on “Dream House,” it comes as no surprise that talks of “Bond 23″ would come up.

CinemaBlend has now learned from a reliable source that the actress is currently in discussions to star in the film, as a villain. But not just any villain, the head of Quantum, which is the secret organization responsible for all the trouble in the last two installments.

While there have been several actresses who have played villains in the Bond franchise, this will be the first time that one would play the mastermind.

Paranormal Activity 2 Has A Director

by James White – EmpireOnline.com   Source: Oren Peli

After a couple of false starts (Kevin Greutert, who was yanked back to the Saw franchise, and producer Akiva Goldsman, who was only ever rumoured), the Paranormal Activity sequel has a director: Tod “Kip” Williams.

Writing at the film’s official site, original Paranormal director Oren Peli announced the news: “I have some awesome news for the fans – Kip Williams will join us for the next chapter of the story.

“We are thrilled to have Kip working with us. He is the guy we want at the helm, because he knows exactly what we want to deliver. I don’t want to spoil the story but I promise it’ll surprise you.” Will it have spooky happenings in it? That would not actually surprise us.

So, who is “Kip” Williams? He’s the man who made 2004’s Jeff Bridges/ Kim Basinger-starring pic The Door In The Floor, but he’s had more experience making lower budget documentaries, so he should have a solid handle on how to make a decent follow-up to the cheaply-made hit.
