Jeffrey Dean Morgan

Jeffrey Dean Morgan is toplining Lions-gate’s horror thriller “Dibbuk Box,” with Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert producing via their Ghost House Pictures shingle.

Lionsgate has already staked a claim to the Halloween frame with “Dibbuk Box,” which is set for domestic release Oct. 28. Lionsgate has released a “Saw” offering around Halloween for the past seven years.

Danish director Ole Bornedal (“Just Another Love Story,” “The Substitute”) is directing from a script — inspired by true events — by Juliet Snowden and Stiles White.

Morgan will star as a recently divorced father whose youngest daughter becomes strangely connected to an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale. As his daughter’s behavior becomes more erratic, the father senses a dark presence building until he discovers that the box was built to contain a dibbuk — a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host.

Stan Wertlieb, Peter Schlessel, and Ghost House principal Nathan Kahane will exec produce. Stephen Susco and Ghost House’s J.R. Young, Nicole Brown and Kelli Konop will co-produce.

Morgan was last seen in “The Losers.” He’s filmed a starring role opposite Sam Worthington in indie murder mystery “The Fields.” Michael Mann produced and his daughter Ami Canaan Mann directed.

He’s also completed production on the MGM/UA’s upcoming reboot of the 1984 action movie “Red Dawn” and on the indie “Peace, Love and Misunderstanding” alongside Catherine Keener and Jane Fonda for director Bruce Beresford (“Driving Miss Daisy”).

Every other big directing gig for the upcoming year has been gobbled up recently, all except for one particular piece. James Cameron is producing a remake of the film “Fantastic Voyage” from Twentieth Century Fox, and the picture is without a director. Well, since Cameron won’t bother to direct it, who will?

Apparently the box office king of the world (had to do that) is keeping his eye on “Clash of the Titans” director Louis Leterrier to tackle the production. That doesn’t mean he’ll get his wish. There’s been several directors that had slid out from the film’s grasp which include Paul Greengrass, Darren Aronofsky, Jonathan Mostow and Timur Bekmambetov. Hopefully Cameron will be able to weave some powerful magic on Leterrier in order to make him stay to direct the 3-D flick.

The Shane Salerno script is currently being re-written by “Shutter Island” scribe Laeta Kalogridis. Filming is expected to start early next year, all depending on whether or not they can keep Leterrier in their grasp.

Nicole Scherzinger

Pussycat Dolls chanteuse and “Dancing with the Stars” champ Nicole Scherzinger is adding a little sci-fi to her resume.

“The Insider” confirms that an offer has been made to Nicole for a part in the upcoming ‘Men in Black III’ opposite Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin.
Now, Pajiba reports that Gemma Arterton (Tamara Drewe), Alec Baldwin (30 Rock), and Sharlto Copley (District 9, The A-Team) are in talks to join Men in Black III. Their sources say that Arterton would play a secretary at the 1969 version of MIB, Baldwin would play the 1969 MIB boss; and Copley would play a fast-talking Yoda type alien.

Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that Betty White (You Again) has landed a cameo role in Men in Black III, and leader of the Pussycat Dolls, Nicole Scherzinger has been offered the role of “Devil Girl”, which is rumored to be the girlfriend of Clement’s character.
Men in Black III is slated to hit theaters on May 25th, 2012.

We learned back in March that director-producer duo of Timur Bekmambatov and Tim Burton had ponied up their own money to option film rights to Seth Grahame-Smith’s Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. But beyond that they liked it and wanted to make it badly enough to kick their own money into making it we knew nothing. But things just got a whole lot clearer.

Deadline is reporting that earlier today Fox won a multiple studio bidding war for the project. The script – written by Grahame-Smith himself – is in hand and the plan is to begin shooting the $70 million picture in March. Bekmambetov directs with Burton producing and the axe-wielding president yet to be cast.

 If the screams delivered by actress Danielle Harris in the opening scene of the slasher flick, “Hatchet 2,” which opened Friday, seem incredibly realistic, there’s good reason.

For the sequence in which she’s battling for her life in the waters of a swamp against the film’s undead villain (“Friday the 13th” vet Kane Hodder) Harris was dunked repeatedly in a freezing cold pool of water near the soundstage that doubled for a brackish Louisiana bayou.

“I kept getting pulled out of the water to have the paramedics taking my temperature to make sure making sure I didn’t get hypothermia,” Harris tells the News. “I was only in and out probably every four or five minutes, that was the most I could take at one time.”

It’s just a typical day on the job for Harris, 33, who has been “screaming and crying,” in her words, through dozens of horror movies since she landed the star-making role as Michael Myers’ niece in 1988′s “Halloween 4″ as a ten-year-old.

Sam Raimi

Just because Sam Raimi has parted ways with the “Spider-Man” franchise doesn’t mean the filmmaker is leaving comic books altogether. In fact, the director has just booked his next paneled page property.

Heat Vision reports that Raimi is attached to direct “Earp: Saints for Sinners,” based on the Radical Publishing graphic novel of the same name. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman at DreamWorks, Radical president Barry Levine and Star Road Entertainment’s Josh Donen are serving as producers.

“Saint for Sinners” tells a reimagined version of Western icon Wyatt Earp, thrusting the gunslinger into a dystopian future where he routinely takes out the bad guys and hangs his hat in Las Vegas. The comic was created by Matt Cirulnick and David Manpearl, with Cirulnick also writing the film’s screenplay.

Further details regarding “Saints for Sinners” are expected to be unveiled at Radical’s Comic-Con panel in San Diego on Thursday.

In saddling up for “Saints for Sinners,” Raimi has now added a third project to his increasingly busy film slate. The former “Spider-Man” director is already in negotiations to get behind the lens for Disney’s “Oz, the Great and Powerful,” with “Iron Man” star Robert Downey, Jr. rumored to headline as the titular wizard. Raimi is also attached to direct “World of Warcraft,” a project he enthusiastically spoke with MTV News about as recently as this month.

“Saints for Sinners” won’t be Raimi’s first voyage out west, as he also directed the 1995 western “The Quick and the Dead.”

Nikki Reed

The indie drama Catch .44 has added two actresses transitioning from sultry vampire roles. Twilight Saga’s Nikki Reed and True Blood’s Deborah Ann Woll have signed on opposite Bruce Willis, Malin Ackerman and Forest Whitaker in the Aaron Harvey-directed thriller about three gorgeous female assassins sent on a job that might be their last.

The film is set for a July 8 start in Louisiana, and Sierra Pictures is aboard to handle international sales. Harvey wrote the script and the pic is co-production between Emmett/Furls Films and Annapurna Productions, with Randall Emmett, Megan Ellison and Michael Benaroya producing and George Furla, Curtis Jackson and Ted Schipper exec producers.

Reed plays Rosalie Hale, part of the Cullen vampire clan in Twilight Saga: Eclipse, and Woll plays True Blood’s precocious newbie bloodsucker Jessica.
