Predator

Predator

 Worstpreviews.com-April 2009

Robert Rodriguez recently revealed that he will be rebooting the “Predator” franchise by producing the upcoming “Predators” film. It was assumed that he will be directing it as well, but 20th Century Fox has now revealed that no writers or director are on board.

In addition, Fox also set a release date for the reboot, scheduling it for July 7th, 2010. Seems like a short amount of time to go from zero to a complete film, especially since Rodriguez is planning to start lensing “Machete” in June.

Rodriguez is no stranger to the “Predator” franchise. Back in 2004, he spoke about a script he wrote for “Predators,” which was planned as a third installment in the franchise. “It was huge, it was a big, big, big budget. And it was really a cool script, but it will never be made. The studio edited it and said there’s no way we can make this, this would cost — even at that time — 150 million, and no women would ever go see this movie.”

According to Rodriguez, who just spoke with AICN, 20th Century Fox got interested in the reboot after discovering that he had written a sequel treatment 15 years ago. “What I’d like to do with it is expand on ideas I dreamt up back in the original treatment, that had really expanded on the universe both the Predators and other species live in,” said Rodriguez. “We’d create new otherworldly characters while not taking away from the draw our main Predator has.”

Seth Rogen is the Green Hornet

Green Hornet

Green Hornet

By night, debonair newspaper publisher Britt Reid (Seth Rogen) fights crime as a masked superhero known as The Green Hornet. At his side is martial arts expert Kato (Stephen Chow).

Expect a June 2010 release for this Original film directed by Michael Gondry. Stephen Chow had been tapped to direct but dropped out over creative differences. He is still expected to co-star as Kato, the Hornet’s trusty sidekick and chauffeur.

Since Chow’s departure, the project has been the subject of speculation that it was sliding into development hell, but the studio is intent on making the feature one of its 2010 tentpoles.

The choice of Gondry, the helmer behind off-the-beaten-path films such as “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” “The Science of Sleep” and “Be Kind Rewind,” signals that the creative direction the studio and the film’s producer, Neal Moritz, are trying to take the project is one not usually associated with the usual crime-fighter movie.

As of this post, the Special Effects Makeup artists haven’t been named.

Schwarzenegger back as The Terminator?

Terminator

Terminator

Arnold Schwarzenegger might be back as the Terminator after all, despite his day job as California governor.

Schwarzenegger confirmed in a Webcast interview that his image might appear in next month’s “Terminator: Salvation,” the fourth movie in the franchise about a showdown between humanity and machines.

The governor says he made it clear he had no time to shoot new footage but that the filmmakers are playing with technology to insert his image from the earlier “Terminator” movies.

Schwarzenegger says he told director McG he will come to the premiere of the movie, which stars Christian Bale as leader of the human resistance against machine conquerors.

Jeff Dawn did a remarkable job as makeup department head in the original 1984 version of the Terminator. The masterwork of Special Effects was done by folks like Brian Wade, Tom Woodruff Jr. and of course Stan Winston.

The She-Beast out on DVD 43 years later

Barbara Stelle in 1966's The She Beast

Barbara Stelle in 1966's The She Beast

The She Beast (Italian title: La Sorella di Satana; also known as Revenge of the Blood Beast) is a 1966 British-Italian horror film written and directed by Michael Reeves. The film stars Barbara Steele and Ian Ogilvy. Look for great makeup work by David Pollack.

The film opens in 1960s Romania with the bearded and high-socked Count von Helsing (John Karlsen) in a cave reading an account of a murderous witch who lived in the area 200 years before. Then, in a flashback, we see the witch being attacked by villagers who attach her to a dunking-chair by impaling her on a spike, and dunking her. As she dies, she swears to return one day to revenge herself upon the descendants of those who have killed her. The film then cuts back to “present day” Communist Romania where an attractive British couple, Veronica and Phillip (Steele and Ogilvie) are vacationing. The couple stop at an inn (run by a questionable innkeeper with predelections for voyeurism, pornography, and rape) and meet von Helsing. The next day, the couple lose control of their car and drive into the lake where the witch was killed 200 years before. When Veronica emerges from the lake, she is transformed into the witch. For the remainder of the film, Phillip and von Helsing combine forces in an attempt to defeat the witch and restore Veronica. To do this, they must face not only the witch herself, but also the innkeeper and a trio of inept Romanian policemen.
